While organizing conferences and events for the community is an extremely rewarding experience, we often do not discuss the downsides for leading such activities. In this talk I will share my experience of building a community conference from a few hundred people to over 2100 attendees, and then to be completely burnt out, and finally breaking down. We often avoid admitting that we were broken, but it’s better than harming yourself: It’s okay to burn out. By sharing this story, I hope to assure you that admitting that you are burnt out, and to walk away from such positions is okay.
